This is a cake that I made for my brother in-law’s 18′th birthday.  He’s a big Essendon fan so I wanted to do something in that theme.  I decided that I wanted to make the jersey, but I also wanted to make sure that it was a little different to most of the jersey cakes that I had seen.  With this in mind I decided on the design that you see in the photo, that has the actual cake on the base covered in a wood grain effect and the jersey  modelled entirely from fondant and then draped over the cake as if it had been casually thrown.  I also quite like that this cake can be fairly versatile as it can be adapted to almost any different sporting team:)
