This panda cake is definitely one of my favourites:) Its a fruit cake base covered in marzipan and then fondant. I haven’t used marzipan very much before but it’s actually really easy to work with, particularly for this kind of three dimensional cake. Its very sculptural and easy to mould, useful for relatively complicated shapes like this panda. The really tricky part was trying to cover this cake in fondant without showing any joins, I find the secret is to try and use the natural creases in the cake to hide them!

The Butterfly Cake
Posted in: Birthday Cakes
This cake I made for my cousin Lisa’s nineteenth birthday. It’s fairly simple, only really having one element, the butterflies. To make them a little more special I made a sheet of purple and white marbled fondant to cut the butterflies from. I also tried a new flavour for this cake, raspberry and white chocolate mud cake! -

The Essendon Football Cake

This is a cake that I made for my brother in-law’s 18′th birthday. He’s a big Essendon fan so I wanted to do something in that theme. I decided that I wanted to make the jersey, but I also wanted to make sure that it was a little different to most of the jersey cakes that I had seen. With this in mind I decided on the design that you see in the photo, that has the actual cake on the base covered in a wood grain effect and the jersey modelled entirely from fondant and then draped over the cake as if it had been casually thrown. I also quite like that this cake can be fairly versatile as it can be adapted to almost any different sporting team:) -

This is a cake that I recently made inspired by the Hermes Birkin bag, in my opinion it’s even better than the real thing as its entirely edible!I was really proud of how this cake turned out. I’d never even heard of a Birkin bag before, but my wife assures me that it looks like a genuine knock off

Luca’s First Birthday Cake

This is a cakeographic representation of “Hoot” from the ABC children’s television series “Giggle and Hoot”. I made this cake for my pseudo-nephew Luca for his first birthday. As we arrived the birthday boy was in the midst of a slight tantrum, however as soon as he saw the cake he immediately cheered up…this is perhaps the best and most flattering reaction to a cake that I have ever received=)

The Record Player Cake

This is a cake that I made for my friend Paul’s Birthday. I love the wood grain effect on the body of the record player, it’s actually a technique that my wife invented specifically for this cake. I was blown away by how organic and realistic it looks, very effective. I can’t wait to try it out again! -
